Focus on your joys, not your fears
“Everything seems too good to be true right now, I better prepare for a huge setback in order not to be too disappointed when it happens”, I often hear people say.
I used to say that too when I was younger. There has been a lot of beautiful moments in my life when everything was just perfect. But instead of completely surrendering to that magical moment, I didn’t allow myself to fully embrace it because I was terrified of when it all would be taken away from me.
In a moment of feeling whole, I prepared myself for pieces to fall apart.
But it is not only completely useless because you will suffer just as much if the devastating event happens with or without trying to mentally prepare for it. It furthermore keeps you from truly enjoying your present moment.
Our now — the only guarantee there is. Tomorrow is not guaranteed. That’s why now I constantly remind myself that my time in this world is limited. Every human that I love so deeply will not be here forever. Because of this, I do not hold back!
Life is what happens right now. Make sure it is not overshadowed by your mind that is constantly busy making plans for the next moment, and then the next.
